Advantages Of Marriage

The number of couples rethinking their relationship and either spouse filing for divorce is a figure that keeps rising. We cannot deny that there are a lot of unhappy couples in America these days getting divorces, but there’s something about being married to the man or woman you love that increases one’s self-esteem, physical and mental health, as well as finances.

Studies show that married people suffer from less health risks than those who aren’t married. Singles are apparently more susceptible to back pain and heart disease, and don’t live as long as married people.

Both husbands and wives prosper from marriage, benefiting from improved physical and mental health and better finances, but the men are especially healthier. As for the wives, financial stability is the most significant benefit.

Many couples who have been married for long credit dedication and companionship as their reasons for togetherness. These are happy couples who stay together because they consider marriage to be a sacred institution and remain committed to each other. It also helps for married couples to have similar values and interests and started out as good friends with such.

Living in with your significant other before marriage isn’t always the best thing to do, as the average married couple who has been together for years before matrimony has a greater tendency to lose interest and/or commitment and get divorced eventually. For cohabiting couples, the motivation to resolve conflicts isn’t as great as the average married couple. Many believe, though, that cohabitation is the same deal as marriage, only without a marriage certificate. The studies also show cohabiting couples not enjoying all the benefits that married couples do. In terms of health, wealth and confidence, cohabiting couples are on the same level as singles. Once again, co-habitating couples aren’t as committed as married couples, so that means they are usually more self-centered than a married man or woman.

There is one drawback to being a happily married man or woman, though, based on the studies. This drawback would be a tendency to gain weight, which is, unfortunately, very common for husbands and wives after marriage.

With all this being said, we must also warn about the serious health risks that come with a married couple getting a divorce. The stress that a man or woman goes through during a divorce is almost as bad, and often even worse than the stress that one goes through at work.
